OASIS3 Design Requirements

The Oasis III Mooring controller system shall:

  1. Nominally replace the functionality of the existing M1/M2 Oasis mooring controller system.
  2. Increase the amount of non-volatile storage for system and driver code by at least a factor of 10 over existing Oasis Controller system.
  3. Provide a storage medium that behaves as read-only memory when deployed, insensitive to sudden removal of system power.
  4. Use existing hardware infrastructure.
  5. Utilize existing RF infrastructure.
  6. Be able to upgrade to a 2-3 times higher bandwidth RF infrastructure if necessary.
  7. Provide expanded instrument capability greater than 16 instruments.
  8. Re-use existing code for instrument drivers.
  9. Have an operational and maintenance life cycle of 3-5 years.
  10. Not require changes to shore side data system.
  11. Not have power consumption greater than Oasis.
  12. Provide a non-invasive configuration mechanism to enable the modification of system operating parameters and sampling behavior, remotely and in situ.
