oasIS Deployment Log June 1996 Deployment of OASIS Moorings M1 and M2 Please note all changes to the moorings, the OASIS controller, or any equipment that resides on M1 or M2 in this log. Sign and date your entry. The initials "rah" are for Robert A. Herlien. "peti" is Tim Pennington. 29may96 peti Both m1 and m2 moorings recovered. m1, recovered: ctd1169 tr277 satl011 fl41 m2, recovered: ctd1170 tr87 fluor218 25jun96 rah --- m1 Deployed M1 mooring, OASIS software revision 3.4 CTD 1169, fluor 41, transmissometer 277, Satlantic 011 23jul96 rah --- m2 Deployed M2 mooring, OASIS software revision 3.5 CTD 099, fluor 79, transmissometer 87, Satlantic 118, 119 Wetstar 021, 019, AC9 90175, PRR 9661, MCP 7185 6Aug96 peti --- m2 Controller had quit. Mark P and I checked battery voltage; ok; did hard reset; got oasis prompt; called hebo; he established comms with packet radio. All seemed ok. Anemometer had been installed 180 deg out; Mark rotated it. Should be correct now. Swapped out tr87 and fl79; installed fl300 and tr 485. 2 seagulls were trapped in the donut; one dead; one I removed. Saw a 6' blue shark under the mooring. No evidence of S Lions on the mooring. 28aug96 peti --- m2 On Lobos, 24096. Deployed: fl79 fr485 sat104 (position A; front of donut) sat105 (position B; back of donut) wetstar 014 Recovered: fl300 tr87 sat118 (pos A) sat119 (pos B) wetstar 021 Also fiddled with pumping sys. Was pumping water stream into wetstar when arrived; good flow but not much pressure against finger. Then raised elevator all the way, and: Took the tygon from the no3 sys to pump inlet off; put TBT sleeve on inlet Took the new wetstar out the sys; put tbt sleeve on ac9 outlet Pump on continuously while there for 1 hr; started screaming; was still making noise when elevator lowereed into water and noise lessened. However, no water stream pumped out of ac9 as elevator lowered slowly. Gernot also worked on equilibrator problems with his pc02. 29aug96 kemi --- m1, m2 On Martin M1: divers deployed PRR 9604 at 10m and 9605 at 20m divers recovered PRR 9626 at 10m and 9609 at 20m on the elevator, deployed Sat 012 and recovered 011. Tried to exchange CO2 equillibrator tube with no luck - the combination of the end cap and rings around the tube prevented us from getting it out. Also, the "gate" got smashed in I think and the bolts are missing from the collar-type hinges along with half of the hinge. I put some more ty-wraps around it trying to hold it in place. M2: divers inspected the PRR shutter and found a ty-wrap blocking the bottom paddle from being fully closed. After cutting and removing the cursed ty-wrap, they did not notice any movement of the paddles. The motor/gears are probably burnt up. The divers reported no growth on the 20m PRR and also exchanged the 10m MCP-200 (dep 7186 and rec 7185). 11sep96 peti --- m1 On Ridgeway w/ kemi, wape Removed pumped tr277 and fl41. The fl had been pegged high for some days and the fl going low. Upon opening the sleeves found lots of green slime; appears as if pump has not been flushing units adequately. No barnies inside, but lots out. Installed pumped tr485 and fl218. Boys also replaced equilibrator for pc02 and brought back the broken cattle guard gate. 12sep96 kemi --- m1, m2 On Martin with frge and wape. M2 - recovered CO2 and NO3 (0m) systems, installed new U/W pump. M1 - recovered surface NO3 analyzer and logger. 17sep96 peti --- m1 On Lobos 26196 Recovered fl218, tr485, a pump, pump tubing harness. Deployed fl41, tr277 with tbt sleeves/rings as of old; no pump system left on at all. After recovery noted that trans baffles had green slime on them; ie, apparently not enough flow. Also noted that Fluor signal of pumped system (fl218) much lower than that of free system (fl41). Not sure how or why. During swapout noted that pump pumped water fine. Pco2 equilibrator is really in the way. Can only raise elevator partially; bottom clip on mounts is 5" under water. 3oct96 kemi --- m1, m2 On the Martin M1- divers recovered 10m NO3 frge and jaha deployed 0m NO3 and switched CO2 equilibrator tubes (back to the original deployed tube) M2 - kemi and wape swapped AC-9 dep 118 and recovered 175 AC-9 175 had alot of endcap corrosion and will go back to Wetlabs for repair. Bench test in lab indicates that the top and bottom electrical cans are NOT isolated. 9oct96 kemi --- m2 on Martin with acbr, wape, and wrda M2 - divers recovered 20m PRR 9661 with wiper and Wetstar 019. Wetstar 020 is secured to cage but not connected. No PRR is connected. At surface, wape and wrda installed pCO2 and NO3. Recovered Fl 79, Tr 87, Sat A 104, Sat B 105, Wetstar 014 Deployed Fl 300, Tr 485, Sat A 118, Sat B 119, Wetstar 020 30oct96 peti --- m2 30496 on Lobos. Mooring had quit working. Checked antennas and cables for gross problems. None seen. Unplugged power to oasis can for 15 min; replugged. Apparently this did not reset mooring. Recovered ctd099; deployed ctd1170 recovered fl300; deployed fl218 recovered tr485; deployed tr451 recovered ac90118 and cable; dummied off at oasis can recovered satlantic 118 and 119; dummied off at ends of cables recovered WS fluor 018; deployed WS fluor 014? replumbed pc02/pump tubing cage is getting emptier. 31oct96 kemi --- aboard Cypress Sea M2 divers (kemi and reki): deployed PRR 9662 and Wetstar 018 at 20m. No shutter deployed. Pin #2 on the PRR U/W-4 connector was corroded away. This is the power pin to the PRR so I doubt if it will work. On buoy, thga and markp reset the can, dumped data, and rinit the radio. M2 is working okay now. M1 divers: deployed PRR 9626 at 10m PRR 9609 at 20m recover PRR 9604 at 10m PRR 9605 at 20m 8nov96 kemi --- m2 We have had no trans or fluor data since last ctd swapout; Mike recovered ctd1170 and deployed ctd099 along with a new y-cable. This worked. It turned out ctd1170 needed to be sent for repair. 20nov96 peti --- m1 On Lobos 32596 Recovered ctd1169, tr277, fl41. Deployed ctd868, tr87, fl300. Unbolted and moved pc02 equilibrator to front of elevator so elevator can be raised all the way, but found that bolt holes not square and wouldnt fit at all. Had to reinstall equil. at back. 11dec96 peti --- m2 Lobos 34696 Recovered tr451, fl218 Deployed tr277, fl41 Noticed pc02 tub bottom hose clamp loose. No easy way to get it back on this rough day; seemed to be staying in the cage ok. 19dec peti --- m2 Flyer ctd test day Cleaned barnies from all around tr277, which had been producing spikey data. This worked. 09jan97 kemi ---M1 Ridgeway trip with wape Deployed CTD 1169 Tr 451 Fl 218 Sat 124 Recovered CTD 868 Tr 87 Fl 300 Sat 012 Also recovered pCO2 analyzer and top of equilibrator and NO3 analyzer and logger. A considerable offset. Dont yet know why, or which value is bogus (tho 34 ppt is hi for here). Swap on 18297. No temp offset. 15jul97 kemi aboard the Martin with Drew G. M2 0930-1200 deployed: ctd 868, tr 87, fl 300, sat A 125, wstar 236 recovered: ctd 099, tr 451, fl 41, sat A 124, wstar 235 Divers recovered 20m PRR 600T2-9662 and deployed it without the shutter. The shutter's paddles were in the closed position and there was no sign of obstruction (ie ty-wraps) or obvious breakage. M1 1315-1345 deployed: ctd 099 recovered: ctd 1169 Also, removed tbt sleeve from the NO3 sample tube - it had been sticking out about 3 - 4". 21jul97 peti NOTE on m1 ctd swap of 15jul No sal offset between 099 and 1169 apparent for this swap. Earlier 1169 data with hi sals must have been bogus, perhaps due to something in the cond cell which was washed out on 01jul. Problem seems fixed. 24jul97 kemi aboard the Martin with Mark P.
